ESCUDO EN MEMORIA DE LOS CAIDOS EN EL WORLD TRADE CENTER

El Cuerpo de Bomberos de la ciudad de Nueva York ha creado un escudo en memoria de sus compañeros caídos en el atentado terrorista del 11 de Septiembre en el World Trade Center.

El precio del escudo es de seis dólares y los beneficios que se recauden se destinarán a la fundación “The New York Firefighter 9-11 Disaster Relief”.

A raíz del atentado terrorista, se incrementó la atención sobre el parche oficial de los Bomberos de Nueva York, precisamente porque incluye en su diseño las dos torres gemelas.

El escudo se introdujo en 1976, ya que previamente no existía un emblema oficial. Fue realizado por Chris Athos, un bombero de la división gráfica del Centro de Entrenamiento de los Bomberos de Nueva York.

El parche es rojo, blanco y azul. Los colores de la bandera americana. En el fondo la conocida línea del cielo de esta ciudad. Un apunte: El World Trade Center terminó su construcción en 1973, tres años antes de que el escudo fuera concebido. El círculo central es una versión modernizada de la cruz de malta, con las llamas en su interior.
